Cut steak into thin strips, roll in flour and brown in butter or margarine. Add onion, mushrooms and garlic, browning a bit more. Add salt and pepper. Add water to meat, ** just to cover. Simmer, covered, 2–2½ hours. Just before serving, thicken slightly with a flour/water mixture. Then add sour cream, stirring until blended. Serve over egg noodles.

** Add 1-2 beef bouillon cubes and a little more water to make more gravy.
