Butter Toffee

Ingredients
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 4 oz dipping chocolate or 1/2 cup chocolate chips

    Place butter into 8 cup batter bowl. Melt 30-45 seconds in microwave. Pour sugar directly on butter (avoid getting on sides of bowl as much as possible). Stir to dissolve. Add salt, water and almonds. Cook approximately 7 minutes. (This time is approximate, slightly less time than required to cook candy to the proper stage. This is so you will watch it so as not to overcook.) It may take 1-5 minutes longer. Candy is done when it is the color of a Heath bar, brown sugar and/or browned butter. Pour syrup on buttered cookie sheet. Immediately top with chocolate. Let melt. Spread. Chill to set. Break.
