Chocolate Chip Blonde Brownies

Ingredients
  • 1 cup sifted flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 package chocolate chips

    Sift flour, measure, add baking powder, soda and salt; sift again. Add nuts and mix. Melt butter in saucepan; remove from heat. Mix in sugar. (Add 1 T. hot water if other shortening is used in place of butter.) Cool. Stir in egg and vanilla. Add the flour mixture, a small amount at a time. Mix well. Spread in greased 9 x 9 x 2 inch pan. Sprinkle chocolate chips over top. Bake in 350 degree oven for 20-25 minutes. Cool in pan.
