Dill Pickles

Makes 8 quarts

Ingredients
  • 1 cup salt
  • 9 cup water
  • 3 cup vinegar
  • 1 tsp alum

    Combine ingredients and bring to boiling point. Pour over cucumbers which have been dropped in hot salted water (see note) before packing in hot jars. Add dill.

Note

For hot salted water, use about 1/2 cup salt in 7 or 8 quarts of water.
