Makes 1 loaf

Ingredients
    Bread:
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup liquid brown sugar
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 tsp grated lemon peel
  • 2 cup plus 2 tablespoons unsifted all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • Brown Sugar Glaze:
  • 1 cup sifted powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup to 1/3 cup liquid brown sugar

    Bread:

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a  9 x 5 x 3 inch loaf pan.

    In bowl, with electric mixer, beat together butter and sugar. At low speed, blend in liquid brown sugar, eggs and lemon peel; beat well.

    On sheet of waxed paper, stir together dry ingredients. Add dry ingredients to first mixture, alternately with milk. Stir in nuts.

    Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake for 60-70 minutes or until toothpick poked in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes in pan on cake rack. Turn loaf out of pan and cool thoroughly on rack. Spread top of loaf with Brown Sugar Glaze.

    Stir powdered sugar with enough liquid brown sugar to produce glaze consistency. Spoon over cooled loaf. Makes enough for one loaf.
