Sourdough Starter
  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 2 c. warm water
  • 2 c. plain flour
  • Sourdough Bread
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. oil
  • 1 tbsp. salt
  • 1 to 1 1/2 c. starter
  • 1 1/2 c. water
  • About 6 c. flour

    Sourdough Starter

    Combine in bowl. Let ferment 12-24 hours. Use half to make bread and put the other half in a jar in the refrigerator. Use within 14 days. Bring back to room temperature before using.

    Sourdough Bread

    Mix ingredients with enough flour to make a stiff dough. Knead and then place in a greased bowl. Turn over to grease top. Cover with cloth and let rise until double or overnight. Punch down and knead 8-10 times. Divide into 3 parts. Place in 3 greased loaf pans or divide in half and make into rolls and place in 2 (9x13 inch) pans. Grease tops with oil. Let rise overnight or until double. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-45 minutes for loaves or 15-20 minutes for rolls.
